With such important regions in ashes, naturally, the next most populous centers that remained intact were none other than Yuan Shao's powerbase: the Hebei region, which consisted of the lands of ancient Zhao, Yan, Wei kingdoms. The areas immediately south of Qing province, Tao Qian's Xu province, suffered decimation at the hands of vengeful Cao Cao. This decimation, was called the "Sanfu Chaos (三輔之亂)".Īlso, the areas near the prosperous Qing province in Shandong peninsula, the domain of old Qi Kingdom, was severely hit by the Yellow Turban rebellion, and numerous resurgence of the Yellow Turbans and other bandit forces, peasant uprisings. This most important population center, was absolutely decimated during the years between the Yellow Turbans and Dong Zhuo's rule, and the tyranny of Dong's old subordinates Li Jue and Guo Si. And even before the Spring&Autumn period, the region was all the ancient lands of the first kingdoms of Chinese history, such as Zhou and Shang. This Sili region not only held the Han Imperial capitals, but also contained the major cities and capitals of the old Spring&Autumn/Warring States' capitals and major cities. The most prominent population center that provided the bulk of military manpower during the Han period, was the special district of Sili - while not a province, the long strip of land was deemed a special district directly under the control of the Imperial house, and its major cities range from Changan in the west, the old capital of Han, and to Luoyang in the east, the capital of later Han. The reason why those soldiers were particularly meaningful, was because all four of the regions mentioned above were major population centers that held a relatively long period of peace and stability - as compared to the rest of the Han territories which basically went to shi* since the Yellow Turban rebellions and the decimation of Han authority.
